Laura O’Grady

My name is Laura O'Grady and I'm a recent addition to the PAC team. In my current incarnation I’m a post doctoral fellow at the Centre for Global eHealth Innovation. My main area of research is patient education/empowerment using various forms of technologies, in particular web-based applications. I’ve worked in research institutes, the non-profit sector and hospitals as a researcher. I guess I’ve basically been doing this type of work in one form or another for my entire adult life (and being a student, of course!). Oh and I’ve also been a patient. Sigh. Need I say more.

My interest in PAC extends from all of my experiences, both personal and professional. While working in the HIV/AIDS field (where I honed my advocacy skills) I was exposed to countless horror stories related to medical care. I think that movement has made great headway in providing patient-centric care but it now up the rest of us to band together and carry the torch on.

Mon nom est Laura O’Grady et je suis un ajout récent a la PAC. Dans mon post je suis l’incarnation actuelle de cette bourse de doctorat au Centre for Global eHealth Innovation. Mon principal domaine de recherche est l’éducation du patient / prise en charge en utilisant diverses formes de technologies, en particulier les applications Web. J’ai travaillé dans des instituts de recherche, le secteur a but mon lucratif et les hôpitaux en tant que recherche. Je crois que j’ai essentiellement fait ce type de travail sous une forme ou une autre pour toute ma vie adulte (et être un étudiant, bien sur!) Je suis aussi un patient. Dois-je en dire plus.

Mes intérêts en matière de PAC viennent de mes expériences, à la fois personnelle et professionnelle. Tout en travaillant dans le domaine du VIH/SIDA (ou j’ai perfectionne mes compétences de plaidoyer) j’ai été expose a multiples histoires d’horreur liées aux soins médicaux. Je pense que le mouvement a fait de grands progrès dans les soins centrés sur le patient, mais il est maintenant à nous de poursuivre la lutte.
